landscape
statement of intent
What is my chosen theme?
My chosen theme for my GCSE main project is going to be around Landscape and I am going to look at different types of landscape, such as lakes, trees, miniature landscapes, urban landscapes and possibly even my own local landscape. I have chosen to do this theme because it appeals to me and seems interesting. I am going to be putting pictures into words and experimenting in photoshop. My chosen theme is text.
What research do you intend to carry out based on this theme?
In order to produce a successful, creative and individual final main project, I need to start by doing some in-depth research around my chosen theme. The way I am going to do this is go onto the internet and research famous photographers who use landscape as their theme, look at magazines and books to inspire me ,mood boards ,mind maps. I Could set-up a Pinterest account because i hope to explore lots of different options so that I build up intricate understanding of my chosen theme. I need to have a wide range of research using a variety of different media, to ensure that my project is well informed and in-depth. This will allow me to create a successful project and will help inspire me/ influence me .My main aim is create a project that is very personal to me and one where I can explore and develop my photography techniques and skills. I am going to use my weebly personal photography website to record all of my ideas. I am going to look at many Youtube videos and use them in my work to help me.
What photoshoots do you intend to complete during the project to help explore the chosen topic
For this topic I have decided to use my pictures from when I went to the Lake District and develop them further in Photoshop because the pictures I took would work best with the theme I have chosen. I might try to take more pictures of nature and lakes to have more of a variety when it comes to my final outcomes.
Which photographers are you going to research?
Martin Lawrence, Marco Grassi, Guy Tal, Daniel Kordan, Barbara Kruger, Ed Ruscha. I have chosen these photographers because they specalise in nature and some of them use text in images and that is my chosen theme so I believe researching these photographers will help me in my work.
What do i hope to learn more about in doing this project?
By doing this project, I hope to learn more about the theme of Landscape but also how to take my work on a journey and create a really personal and meaningful project. In order to do this I am going to experiment with different techniques and develop more of my ideas on photoshop. I also hope to learn more about how each and every tool on photoshop so I can use what I need when I need it.
What techniques with the camera, darkroom and Photoshop would you like to use to develop the theme?
I would like to use the text features in photoshop to get the outcomes I want. The techniques I will need to use in Photoshop will be the contrast, expose, saturation levels as that will be an important part of my outcomes. I might try to take more pictures with my camera and in order to do that I need to make sure the exposure, white balance and the ISO are on the correct setting and make sure its not too over exposed.

composition:
The foreground is the grass area. This makes us think that the photographer was stood in the grass when he was taking this picture. The middle ground is the water. This creates a calm atmosphere and the colours of the water make it look even prettier. The background is where the mountains are. The mountains have a strong leading line from the side to the bottom. The mountains are dark which stands out against the sky because they are contrasting colours. The sweet spot is the tree that is on the edge of the grass/water. This stands out because it is directly at eyesight and the tree is quite long which looks good because the mountains in the back are tall. The middle mountain is straight ahead of where Daniel took this photo which is also at his eye level .I think the image is not over exposed because its not too dark or too light, it is so that you can see everything that is going on in the image. I think the photographer may have used a tri-pod and adjusted it to be higher up but this picture looks as if it was at eye level with a really steady hand. The picture has definitely been used in photoshop because the colours are not natural. The sky and mountains create a slight shadow and reflect into the water . The main colours of the image are purple/pink and a dark brown/black. He has used these colours because they contrast to the each other which then makes the dark parts stand out. In my opinion, the objects that frame the shot are the branches above the tree as they all separate nicely. The image may have been cropped because the mountains start from the side and have strong leading lines until the bottom.
connections:
I like their work because it is very sophisticated and soothing to look at. The amount of detail in this image is immaculate as the photographer has made us believe we are with him. I could try and use this in my work because i have taken similar pictures like this but without changing the colours. His work is very sophisticated but also looks magical because of how he has experimented this in photoshop.
inspiration:
I am going to try and achieve this because it really stands out to me and he is a very good photographer. I want to play around in photoshop and change background colours because he has inspired me to do this. I
